CSI comments on American Sniper Trial: Chris Kyle's Widow Takes the Stand

STEPHENVILLE, TX — American Sniper remains #1 on the big screen. And now, the real-life drama will unfold in the small town of Stephenville, TX where the American Sniper Murder Trial begins Wednesday morning.  Chris Kyle‘s widow, Taya, will be among the first witnesses to take the stand.  Eddie Ray Routh is accused of killing Kyle and his friend Chad Littlefield. A jury of 10 women and two men will decide his fate.  So, is it a good or bad thing to have such a lopsided jury?  “In this case, the prosecution may want these 10 women because they anticipate those women will be sympathetic with Mrs. Kyle,” said Mary Noffsinger, Senior Jury Consultant. “On the other hand, the defense may want those ten women because they may be more sympathetic with the not guilt with reason of insanity.”

Mary Noffsinger, with Courtroom Sciences, Inc. believes female jurors are more likely to give Routh the benefit of the doubt.  “The women. with knowing nothing else about them, are more likely to be favorable for the defense.”  Man, it has to be tough to not know anything about the case when there’s a blockbuster, Oscar-nominated film that ends with Chris Kyle’s death.  But the judge actually told prospective jurors it was okay if they had read Kyle’s book or seen the movie.

We decided to ask moviegoers if they could be unbiased after watching Kyle’s story unfold on the big screen. The responses were split.  Routh’s attorneys are expected to argue the ex-Marine is not guilty by reason of insanity citing PTSD.
